Our Story
Farah Joseph didn't start as a furniture brand. It started with a frustration.
After years working in interior design, seeing beautifully planned rooms let down again and again by the same thing — a sofa that looked right in the mood board but felt cheap within a year, sagged in the middle, or simply wasn't built to survive real life. Good design was being undone by furniture that was never made to last in the first place.
That frustration became the idea behind Farah Joseph: build sofas and beds properly, the way they should have been built all along. Not designed to photograph well for six months and then fall apart. Designed to be sat on every day, for years, by people who actually live in the rooms they've spent time and money getting right.
A Different Way of Making Furniture
Most furniture you can buy today was built long before you ever saw it — sat in a warehouse, in a handful of standard colours, waiting for someone to choose it. We do the opposite. Every sofa, bed, and mattress we make starts only once it's been ordered. Nothing is pre-built. Nothing is picked from limited stock.
That means when you choose a colour from our range of 90 Plush Velvet shades, you're not choosing from what happens to be left — you're choosing exactly what you want, and it's built specifically for you, from that point.
It also means patience is part of the process. Made-to-order furniture takes longer than furniture that's already sitting on a shelf. We think that trade-off is worth it, and we're upfront about timings from the moment you order, because we'd rather you know exactly what to expect than promise something faster and not deliver it.
Built to Actually Last
We believe furniture should earn its place in your home for years, not months. That means solid frame construction, proper upholstery techniques, and materials chosen because they hold up — not because they're the cheapest option that gets a sofa out the door.
Every sofa comes with a 5-year frame guarantee, because we're confident in how it's built, and because we'd rather stand behind our furniture than hope you don't notice if something goes wrong.
Handmade in the UK
Every piece we make is handmade here in the UK, built by people who understand upholstery properly — not assembled on a mass production line overseas and shipped in bulk. It's a slower, more deliberate way of working, and it's the only way we've found to make furniture we're genuinely proud to put our name to.
Why It Matters to Us
We'd rather stay a smaller brand that gets this right than grow into a bigger one that doesn't. That means saying no to shortcuts that would make things faster or cheaper at the cost of quality — because the point was never to build furniture as quickly as possible. It was to build furniture worth keeping.
If you've got questions about a piece before you order — how it's made, what to expect, or anything about the process — get in touch at hello@farahjoseph.com. We're happy to talk it through properly, not just point you to a FAQ page.
